Nowflation measures US inflation in real time. The official Consumer Price Index arrives once a month, two weeks late, with survey methods that lag market reality; this site publishes two daily readings next to the official number. The headline, Nowflation Realtime, measures the prices being set today: live market prices wherever a credible source exists (pump prices, vehicle auction and transaction prices, rents on leases signed this month) and the latest official reading, labeled as held, everywhere else. The Nowflation CPI Gauge estimates what official CPI would read if its inputs were refreshed today: it keeps CPI's construction and uses live prices where they have a better record than the survey — this month's new leases averaged over every lease in force, pump prices, wholesale used-vehicle values — holding every other component at its latest official subindex. Alongside them sit a forecast of the next CPI print and a public scoreboard that grades that forecast after every release, misses included.
